ANDROMEDA Smartphone App Factsheet

The ANDROMEDA citizen science smartphone app was developed to enable citizens to help scientists in addressing the global environmental problem of microplastics in our environment. This app uses artificial intelligence to analyse photos of microplastics taken by the app user, and learns to identify these over time.

Learn more about the app and how to use it by downloading the accompanying factsheet which is currently available in Dutch, English, Estonian, French, German, Maltese, Norwegian, and Spanish !

To learn more about the ANDROMEDA smartphone app, visit our University of Malta partner’s page here!

Smartphone App Photo Template

Download the ANDROMEDA photo template for use in your citizen science campaign here. This template has been designed to have a constant scale, allowing our smartphone app to correctly compare sizes of plastics identified during your fieldwork, helping you to contribute to research on the issue of plastics in our environment!

Microplastics Factsheet

Microplastics are synthetic particles between 1 μm – 5000 μm in diameter (0.001 mm - 5 mm) which originate from a variety of sources and typically end up in the ocean or on beaches.

Learn more about the different types and how they enter the food chain by downloading this ANDROMEDA factsheet, which is currently available in Dutch, English, Estonian, French, German, Maltese, Norwegian, and Spanish!

Download these files individually, or the whole collection by clicking the download button below!
