JPI Oceans Scicomm Event

We would like to thank our UCC partners Kathrin Kopke and Orla-Peach Power for representing the ANDROMEDA project at a science-communication event this afternoon, organised by Jella Kandziora of JPI Oceans. This event was designed to highlight the communication and dissemination activities of the 6 projects funded under the JPI Oceans Joint Action Ecological Aspects of Microplastics call, and to discuss potential joint communication activities in the final year of the projects.

Kathrin Kopke presented on the work being undertaken across our project consortium and amplified in particular the development of our citizen science smartphone app launched in Malta this year, and our current survey on cost effective methodologies for microplastics analysis from seawater.

You can learn more about the six JPI Oceans funded projects below:

  • RESPONSE - Toward a risk-based assessment of microplastic pollution in marine ecosystems - Coordinator: Prof Francesco Regoli, Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy

  • ANDROMEDA - Analysis techniques for quantifying nano-and microplastic particles and their degradation in the marine environment – Coordinator: Dr Richard Sempéré, Université d'Aix-Marseille, France

  • FACTS - Fluxes and Fate of Microplastics in Northern European Waters – Coordinator: Prof Jes Vollertsen, Aalborg University, Denmark

  • HOTMIC - Horizontal and vertical oceanic distribution, transport, and impact of microplastics – Coordinator: Dr Mark Lenz, GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel, Germany

  • microplastiX - Integrated approach on the fate of MicroPlastics (MPs) towards healthy marine ecosystems - Prof Luca Brandt KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

  • i-plastic - Dispersion and impacts of micro- and nano-plastics in the tropical and temperate oceans: from regional land-ocean interface to the open ocean – Coordinator: Prof Patrizia Ziveri, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain
